Sunday...

Another Sunday has come around... the weeks are flying by... soon it will be Christmas.

I'm not usually big fan of Christmas but I'm looking forward to spending this one with my brother & my family in Germany. Which reminds me that I need to do Christmas shopping... ok, that got rid of my Christmas cheer. I hate shopping unless it's PC or Vespa related stuff and my grandmother doesn't have either. I'll have to get some tips on what to get her from my folks.

I still haven't finished HL2. I can't be that far off from the end though. I'm having a little difficulty with the level that I'm on at the moment and I don't think my slight hangover is helping matters much.

If your grandmother enjoys reading I have an excellent recommendation. I just finished Fateless by Imre Kertesz. It is the novel that he won the Nobel for in 2002. It is remarkable. I have many other book recommendations if that one doesn’t fit the bill. If she doesn’t enjoy reading…well…you are back where you started. I am also avid non-shopper and try to spend as much time out of the store as possible (unless it is for food, I love to cook). I have found that online shopping for the holidays compliments my shopping habits very well.

I'm not realy sure what she like reading and it would have to be in German.... Hmmm.. but a book of the non-fiction, geographic variety might be a good idea.

Bah, I don't know. I'd better start thinking about it though.

Ooo, what about getting her a book of Eva Hesse’s works or as you like “creations.” She was born in Hamburg. Her family fled to NY in 1939. She was a key female artist of the American women’s movement in the 60’s. Her mother committed suicide when she was 10 and she was racked with anxieties. Nonetheless she proceeded to pursue her art and attended Pratt Institute where she studied art. After Pratt she was accepted to Yale and received a degree in architecture. She was an amazing woman and assisted in getting us, “women,” where we are today. Your grandmother might enjoy seeing and reading about a German born woman that had so much influence in the liberation of women. blahblahblah....me and my art. I LOVE IT!!

Hey that might be a good present for my mom. She's a fine artist and likes to collect books on the subject.

A biographical book is a good idea because even if her work isn't to my mom's taste, it's more about the artist and not just about her art.

You continue to intrigue me. Now I find out that your mother is an artist. What is her medium? And your father, is he a artist as well? I do say, you must enroll in the drawing class. Not only are there sassy woman in the class, but I am sure you will have a natural talent to impress them with. They say creativity is in the blood. I was lucky enough to have two parents that are very creative, so I guess that is where mine comes from. Although they might refute I am their daughter when they see the orange room I have painted over the holiday.

She goes through stages of using differnet mediums, I think she's mainly working with watercolours at the moment as well as making a few bronzes. It's mainly watercolour or oils though.

My parents have a gallery which my dad runs and they sell a lot of my mom's stuff as well as work from local artists.

They have always tried to encourage my artistic side wich was good. I do regret not joining my mom's art classes which she used to run while I was in school but it's not to late to start art classes now *grin*.

Orange? I once painted a spiral of green comet like things on my roof which sounded like a good idea in theory... It d give me much greater respect for the effort that must have gone into the Sistine chapel roof though. I should have built scaffolding instead of trying to do it standing.

It is orange, but I defend it by saying it is a saturated sassy spice pumpkin color. Ever since I purchased the house three years ago I had been planning on painting it orange. In stead of giving into popular opinion, I change it. I managed to talk three of my girlfriends into using the color in their homes. I have an un-canning ability to persuade. Oh, what I am saying…you already know that. I talked you into taking drawing classes…teehee. My decorating taste has changed dramatically over the years. I used to only display my art collection on white walls. I call it my museum phase. Once I purchased my house I decided, no more white walls….only color and lots of it. I am happy I did it. The colors I have chosen complement my art collection incredibly well.
