The Prodigal Geek Returns

Hey! It's been too long!

After months of fighting with my web server, router and ISP, I've given in and am hosting my site externally.

Bulldog gave us endless problems and eventually left us without an internet connection or even a telephone for weeks. Now we're with UK Online who at least got us connected quickly but their 8Mb service (when it was finally installed) isn't really 8Mb and they're blocking the good ports on top of it all.... So, no more web server from home.

I think I'll bite the bullet and get a business account for home when the contract for this connection eventually expires.

So, for the time being you'll have to make do with just my blog.

You poor unfortunate souls, i feel your pain. I on the other hand have secured a perfectly good 2mb line with fixed ip address from Vispa at 29.00 squidies per month. Although securing a PSP has been a bit harder for me and a tough mental struggle. To PSP or not to PSP, that is my question. A few years ago I would have been sleeping in the queue to get one of these gadgets if they had been available, now I ask myelf if I could spend my money better on something I will actually use as often as my PS2........ and I fear the answer is no, and then I foolishly spend the money elsewhere on less tangible things like dinners and likeable highs. Life of the damned......fortunates, isn't it grand to have choices? Happy Birthday to Me.... High Everyone in Dorris Hill ;)

Nice! Did your neighbours bar you from their router because you were stealing their bandwith or did they just not have a fast enough internet connection for your liking?

Our old 2Mb line was performing better than the "8"Mb. They're throttling the speed now which seems to have helped things... now it's connecting at just under 5Mb (AdslGuide's speed test recons it's closer to 3Mb though).

I'm happy with my PSP purchase though. Then again I do use it quite often... I'm not sure how much use you'd get out of one though... at least your PS2 doubles as a DVD player *grin*.

Nice to see you're back! Where else would I first see all the gadgets I'll never be able to get??

(Luckily I'm too lazy and/or busy to have updated my blogroll links anyway, so there it is.) ;)

Thanks Liz, every time I've visited your site over the last few months I've been suprised that the link is still there.

I finally gave in and got my blog up and running again because I couldn't bare to be responsible for a dead link on your site any longer *grin*.
