Tube Passsenger Boycot

The tube staff are on strike today so there are no tubes in running in
London until 18:30 this evening, an event that happens a few times a
year.

Now it's time for the passengers to send a message.

It would be good if they manage to pull it off but I'm not convinced
that passengers will support it in great numbers.

For all you technophobes out there...

This isn't going to help.

Extortion for Dummies: Lesson #12

It's hard to remain anonymous when you ask to be payed by a cheque made payable to yourself.

Saturday, June 26, 2004

Ish....

Finally. I got my card installed and working. I was worried that I would have to send it back again. It turned out that the problem that I was having with the TV Tuner was caused by a bug DirectX 9.0b and not by beer.

Its arrived.

The graphics card finally arrived as promised and it's a monster. Now I just need to set the damn thing up. I had a quick attempt last night after the game but I may have to resort to reading the manual.

I think this is the inside of my pocket.

Neat!

Microsoft patents the body electric. If only HP could make it work for their pdas, then I wouldn't have to worry about loosing all my data when I forget to charge the damn thing.

Summer?

I hope that wasn't it for the summer... I've resorted to taking the tube in to work this morning, partly because the weather is miserable and partly because I'm not sure if I should go out for drinks with my collegues or watch Germany vs. Chzec... Drinks may be safer. I can't bear to watch Germany get knocked out.

Funky Chicken Pizza

..is what it said on the box but I didn't expect it to turn out like this... It tasted ok though. I think I'm going to make my own next time (and get a baking tray).

I wonder if they make a wristwatch version of this clock.

Apologies

I also take back all that I said about my housemates messing with the server while I was at work. *grin*.

FTP

*Blush* Ok, the FTP problems were my fault. MS set the firewall option on by default on the new internet connection and that was blocking the ports needed to access my machine from the outside. I could see the pages from my machine so I assumed everyone could....

Sneaky.

Monday, June 21, 2004

*sigh*

My server's down again. One of my housemates must have turned off the power or something.

The smoke alarm dosen't like the toaster and tends to go off if you decide that you prefer your toast well done.... this results in the power being turned off in a blind panic to reset the alarm (there's got to be a better way... Images of a large hammer spring to mind). At least we know that the thing works. If it goes off in the middle of the night though I will probably curse my housemates for making toast at strange hours and go back to sleep...

Still no joy...

Jeez.. still can't upload my blog via FTP. I think it may be another challenge from BT. I have a feeling that they only allow FTP access from a certain range of IP addresses....

Not sure how I'm going to get around that one.

OK, so a few more teething problems.....

The DNS servers have been updated but now I need to work out why the FTP upload of the blog isn't working...

Interweb

Woohoo!!! I finally got connected again... It's been a long 2 weeks without the internet and beer & TV isn't a suitable replacement. Onc I've sorted out a few minor hicups like the fact that BT don't do static IP addresses or SMTP mail for their home users things will be back to normal.

I'm giving No-IP.com a try and hopefully I don't drop my connection too often.

Well, the new flat is great. Still haven't managed to get any network games up and running at home though. I think I might talk my housemates into one over the weekend and I'll try go easy on them.

I've been waiting on a replacement graphics card from Tekheads for more than 3 weeks now which is starting to get a bit ridicules. I hope I don't have to trek out to my old flat to go and pick it up. I think I may just try and get a refund and source it from somewhere else if it dosen't arrive tomorrow.

Oh my god

So this is the end of my first day at work since moving in to London... and I'm on my way back in to Surrrey on the most crowded train I've ever traveled, on what is probably the hottest day of the year to date... Hmmm I'm looking forward to an ice cold Guinness when I arrive.

What a weekend

I should have tried to get today off.

Well... I got all my stuff moved into my new flat... Now I just have to finish unpacking.

...my pc is up and running at least and patiently waiting for the internet line to be connected.

It probably wasn't the best idea to go out on Friday but I did have a good time out on the piss in Wimbledon.

Now I'm sitting around waiting for our servers to recover after a power failure that happened some time during the weekend.

Last trip in to work on this train...

Well... I didn't get the vote plugin for my site which would probably lead you to believe that I got my packing done. *cough* sort of. I made a start at least... Then came to the conclusion that I didn't have all that much stuff to start with and could probably do the bulk of it tomorrow morning if I get an early start.

I'm still not sure how long my site will be down for while I sit without a decent internet connection. *sigh* I may have to resort to television or setting up a lounge-cam.

The new flat will also have to be networked but that shouldn't take long. WiFi's tempting but I think we'll stick to good old Cat5.

This time it's for real.

I have to pack my stuff THIS EVENING (or at least make a start). The way things are planned, this will be my last sober evening at home. Tomorrow night is probably going to invole curry & alcohol and I have to scoot in to London first thing on Saturday to pay the deposit and pick up the keys before coming back with the van for my stuff. I could probably clean the place up later in the week. Hmmm... Any bets on how much of my deposit I'll get back?

(need to have a look for the code to put a poll/voting app on my page) Hey! I can do that instead of packing...

Comfortably boring

It's such a nice morning that I decided to walk to the station twice. (The fact that I left my wallet at home is a minor detail but probably played some role).

Out with the old

I suppose I should start packing. The idea of moving is great, the packing is a bit of a drag though... The cleaning up of my flat afterwards even more so.

I'll try throw away as much as possible to lighten the load. (I bet everyone that's moving says that). I'm sure the junk I throw away will be replaced by more useless junk soon enough. Speaking of which... I have my eye on a few old machines at work that I'm sure I could put to better use than they are at the moment.

"Paperweight" springs to mind...

...as the landscape flashes by.

Another day, a few more quid.

I had a horrible thought on the way in to the station this morning... I have a nagging feeling that my lease on my current flat may only be expiring on the 11th of July and not the 11th of June. I could end up paying double rent this month.

I'm going to have to scratch around for the paper work this evening.

I guess it wont be the end of the world seeing that I wont be paying to travel by train into work which is costing me more than half of the rent I'm paying at the moment.

I'm more concerned about the few days that I'm going to be left without internet access while BT sets up the line. I'll have a 1Mb line by the end of the story though which makes it bearable *grin*.

How big is your heatsink?

I would say that this is going a little too far. Somehow I doubt that I would be able to sleep in the same room with that thing if it's running.

Perhaps the whole processor technology requires a bit of a rethink if it comes down to that.

Bring out the gimp

So I didn't manage to make the changes to my site that I was planning to do but added a few graphics instead.

I was messing around with Gimp for the first time. It's quite a nice photo editing package (and open source / freeware which is a bonus).

I think I'll enter a few PhotoShop competitions on Fark to get some practice.
